Two must have books.

I have two must have books to show you even if you don’t intend to go to London or New York.
They both have the same format and are both made from beautiful card stock paper. They are inspirational for design purposes and highly inspiring. I’m sure after looking at them you will want to go visit these two amazing cities.
Don’t expect the usual tourist places to visit, more like beautiful hidden gems.

There is an essence to London style and you find it in the small, off-the radar palces: the one-off shops, street markets, corner pubs and local restaurants that Londoners themselves go to.

London style guide takes you on a journey to the heart and soul of London, revealing more than 150 hidden venues that make this city unique.
Author and journalist Saska Graville breaks the city down by village, unveiling the places that locals love. rather than the more familiar iconic spots, these places share a certain eccentricity, quirkiness and independence of spirit. Also featured are some of the Londoners behind the shops, cafes and hotels, and Saska asks them to reveal their city secrets.

This last picture is one of my eldest son Sam’s favourite places to visit in NYC, it is called the High Line, it’s a old disused railway track that has been converted into a beautiful oasis where you can admire stunning views and even maybe a sneak into someones loft window, where I’m sure they have amazing interiors. Sam has visited NYC a number of times, and finds as a designer, it is the most inspirational place to visit.
I hope one day he gets to work/live there for a while, this is a purely selfish hope, as I would like him to visit all these places and be able to take me around with him! How cool would that be.

Have you any recommendations for either cities? Feel free to share by leaving a comment.

Two book recommendations.

I came across a review of a store called Bailey‘s, it was by Mary Portas in the Saturday Telegraph, she gave it 9 out of 10 which is high praise indeed.
I haven’t been to the store but it is definitely on my to do list.

Here is a message from the Bailey’s store

Whilst I was out and about last week I came across this book, it is written by the owners of Bailey’s and is full of inspiring things, with great visual inspiration.

You can purchase this book from AAnother useful design book to help you fill your home with all things nice is this book called The Natural Home.

This is a book description from Amazon where the book can be purchased for £13.99
The Natural Home is a place where natural materials and motifs are the key elements of a decorating style that is a joy to live with and a joy to behold. Influential art director and stylist Hans Blomquist starts off by exploring the essence of his style. In Texture, he revels in the textures and patinas of natural materials. Still Life reveals Hans’ passion for creating displays that showcase treasured pieces, while Plants and Flowers celebrates the beauty of nature and the cycles of the natural world. Colour presents his favourite earthy, natural colour palette, which provides the perfect backdrop for hits of brighter natural hues. In the second part of the book, Homes, through a series of case studies, Hans explores houses and apartments that showcase the beautiful simplicity and elegance of the natural look.

I feel a trip to Bailey’s and a ordering fest from Amazon coming on! How about you? Do you have any book recommendations to add to my order?
